MP Apartment is a private residence designed by the Trento-based Burnazzi Feltrin Architetti.

Completed in 2012, the home is located in Valcanover, Italy.

“The MP apartment was originally built in order to enjoy the landscape of Caldonazzo lake, near the village of S. Cristoforo, traditionally considered “Trento’s beach”.

The apartment is surrounded by gardens and orchards and has a beautiful view on the lake. It is developed on three levels, beyond the basement: on the ground floor is the living area, the first floor hosts the bedrooms, and the attic is dedicated to study and relaxation activities. The main façade faces south, maximizing the benefits of the winter sunshine.

The furniture project is based on the observation of the surrounding landscape and the analysis of the actions that take place there; exactly the lake, in which is reflected a circle of wood-covered mountains, is able to evoke images of great freedom, such as the practice of outdoor sports, recreation, but also suspension from tasks, protection, the deserved rest. The furniture, with its succession of full, the working time and empty leisure, evokes just the need to find a new balance between opposites, to regenerate body and mind. Natural vegetal and mineral materials are used, such as oak, declined as a coating for floors and walls, and lime plaster, which can both be practical, yet extremely comfortable. Vegetable and minerals materials are to be found in the garden, which has become the place where the wild and the domestic landscape melt into one another, wood is used as a coating, in the paving and pergola that casts a shadow onto the barbecue, Levocell characterizes both the sidewalk entrance, and the vaso-bench, green wedges, with hedges, lawn and ground cover in the living area.

Here, the planning has concentrated particularly; a unique space, thanks to a central piece of furniture, as if it were a totem, is multiplied and mirrored in many different spaces, allowing users to perform several personal tasks at the same time, while remaining together. There is a kitchen, breakfast area, the dining room, tv and relax area; the central piece of furniture, which has by now become the functional pin, includes a fireplace, but it is also a useful and versatile piece of furniture, almost like a boat locker, like those that, on sunny days, appear on the lake.”

“The Villa is situated on the steep site above the central part of the town.

The southward descending terrain offers unobstructed panoramic view of the town and the port, bay, islands, and the mountain.

The house plan is a square divided into nine equal fields. The central field is empty – the garden. Peripheral fields contain rooms, each on its own separate level. They descend in a cascade around the central garden thus creating a spiral.

The house does not consist of ground and first floor but rather forms a continous topography. Twisting a simple series of rooms creates a specific architectural frame of family life.”

Unique Residence in Syros II by block722

Residence in Syros II is a project completed by block722 in 2014.

The home is located in Syros, Greece.

“Situated in the island of Syros, this summer house hosts a family of four and their guests. In contrast to the neighbouring Syros I residence, the steep and intense topography dominated the design process.

A massive staircase leads to a gradual descent from the top towards the house, intensifying the experience of the cycladic landscape. The entrance is surrounded by the higher volumes of the main areas of the house, ending the descent path, then opening immediately to an ample view of the Aegean.

Programmaticaly, the house is clearly divided into the clean and square volume of the common areas (living room, kitchen) and the partially buried rectangular volume of the bedrooms. The guesthouse is also buried inside the slope, defined by a stone wall that is typical of the local archihtecture. The main volume is characterized by a free floor plan, allowing the continuous view of the outside and offering a cosy living space near the fireplace. The outdoor common spaces include two open “courtyards” shielded from the sun and the central part of the court, open to sunbathing and the children’s plays.”

Cozy Home is a private residence located in Shiga Prefecture, Japan.

Designed by FORM / Kouichi Kimura Architects in 2015, the home has a clean, minimalist interior.

“The house is built at one of the small sites crowded with houses and surrounded by narrow roads. With such conditions, we suggested the beautiful and compact house that includes enriched inner spaces.

On the first floor, the parking space is secured first, and the remaining space is best utilized by connecting the bed room and child’s room directly to the stair hall.

At the small stair hall, clear sightlines is ensured by the light passing through from upstairs and the shape of the stair wall, making the space bright and rhythmical.

The second floor is protruded toward the front road to the best possible extent allowed by the relevant regulation so that the maximum volume can be secured for the use of the living room, dining kitchen, small versatile room, and wet area.

The ceiling height is varied to produce visual expansion, and several openings are designed so that light comes in from various positions.

The furnished fixtures make the space effectively used to create a cozy but expanding place.

The comfortableness, which is produced by the small space and would hardly be realized by a broad space, is a major fascination of this house. “

Modern Curtain Apartment by HUE D

Curtain Apartment is a private residence located in Singapore.

It was designed by HUE D with an elegant and airy interior.

“The apartment in downtown Singapore, which belongs to a young couple, is very small in area. To maximize space, the public arena which consists of the Kitchen, Dining and Living, is in one open continuous space. This space leads further to an outdoor balcony. The private spaces of a bedroom, a utility room and a bathroom are tucked away.

The clients have an additional request for the Living to be speedily converted into a guest room when their relatives stay over on some days of the month.

We decided to use fabric as a demarcation device and take the opportunity to play up on the various ways curtain fabric in residential interiors can be utilized other than to filter natural sunlight from the exterior.

At the Living, when the curtains are drawn back, they parked neatly by the 2 sides of the lounge sofa-bed. When the need arises for the space to be converted into a sleeping area, the curtains can be readily closed from the 2 sides to form an enclosed zone within the Living. A room within a room is created. One can still access the outdoor balcony without entering into the newly converted room.

The pelmets on the ceiling that hide the curtain track, are designed and detailed to negotiate 2 different ceiling heights of the Living.

The pelmets are also intended to be the design interests of the ceiling, and over the dining table, it becomes light pelmet to hides track lights within them.

The clients asked for as much storage as possible in the tiny Bedroom.

In response to that, we designed the sleeping area on a low timber platform and detailed a full height open storage area for wardrobe and other storage uses. In place of typical wardrobe doors, we designed fabrics which can be drawn to cover up the storage area. The same fabric is also used as curtain for the windows opposite storage area. When closed, the full height fabrics soften the look of the bedroom as they hide the windows and the storage shelves. During daytime, the bedroom feels lofty as natural daylight filters in gently. At night, the bedroom exudes a chic and intimate ambiance, which the clients appreciate.”

Classic Customi-Zip by L’EAU Design

Customi-Zip is a private contemporary residence designed by L’EAU Design.

The home covers an area of 6,079.8 square feet and is located in Gwacheon-dong, Gwacheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.

“People from this current era who doesn’t want to own same product as others.Product provides customized item by disassemble and reassemble in different combination. As a result, customized product is generated per user’s taste.In case of product customizing, typically the manufacturer or craftsman produce products per the client’s request, but it seem like it is focusing on changing the appearance only.Today is certainly an era when requires my own house, my own life style, and individualized styles.

Architecture, especially customizing house is not very easy. This is more so because editing the exterior for showing is not much meaningful in daily life. The limit remains the same even if the layout of each room named like parts changes. The house should be opened to unexpected possibilities in structure that could be recombined on its own according to family member’s movement and restructure the life pattern per individual taste.

A house which we, the modern people, who is worn out by apartment culture can tune the unfamiliar individual environment. In short, a house where we can break away from daily life everyday would be a house that allows self-curating repetitive circulation and generate unfamiliar pattern. It cannot constitute our own life styles and various situation by simply laying out rooms as cage that confine to logical spatial order.

Now, the house owner of this current period will become a main character and director of our lives through Customi-zip as their stage where they can constantly edit and reconstitute their stories.

We would like to address patchwork of unfamiliar activities and selective editing space in Customi-zip.

1. Living Flex_A house where Patchwork unfamiliar routes
Repetitive everyday life in innumerable apartments around the city is comfortable and familiar for most people. However, the modern people, who started to decide targeted life on their own, stared to require the house to be optimized custom space according to personal selection every moments. We are trying to insert generally unfamiliar customized programs for individual along with indispensable function for dwelling. Disparate conflict of new fixed function and unfamiliar programs will provide daily life that patchwork from familiar repetitive routine of circulation to new unfamiliar activities.

2. House from daily life to deviation
At least once, everyone dream of breaking away from the routine of daily life. But it is hard to actually execute ‘deviation’ in our everyday life. And we fluster when we face unexpected or unplanned deviation. Till now, we looked for a house with beautiful exterior and comfortable functions and we were used to live a daily life the house provides instead of a daily life for ourselves. A house that allows individuals who are used to the apartment culture to mediate their own environment and deviate would be a house where the owner direct the daily routine circulation and filling the house with his/her own life pattern.

3. Unconstrained acceptance of program
Apartment that homogenize (Oneness) the life pattern of different individual through vertically stacked standardized units are more like a fancy “Cage” then a residential space. In our lives, plausible editing of appearance is meaningless. It is necessary to prepare a place with setting of unlimited possible programs to program and stage the daily life with our own individuality.

4. Self Curating
Mass produced rational ‘Apartment’ which divides the space simply into rooms, living room, and kitchen without considering resident’s life style has limit in this ever-changing modern situation. Now ‘dwelling’ should be different from apartment which simply divide levels and apply predetermined functions. We need to prepare logical structure of building with abundant organization of space where deals with outside in order to allow family members to reel off their stories per their moods every morning and people casually gathers in various patterns. In this space, they are the directors who edit their daily lives according to their own life patterns and reconstitute it in architectural space as a stage.

5. Sectional mediation of temporary movement
People naturally behave unexpectedly in organized composition of architectural elements, such as, height of floor, vertical wall, and stairs. If we keep the daily routine in regular tempo in a house that only consider functional demands without any architectural composition, there will be only indifferent boredom. In composition of sectional stairs, floor height difference, and spaces with different interior/exterior relationship, it proposes an open composition which can self-reconstitute family members’ casual movements, such as, swimming, sitting and resting, and romping around together.

6. House change in time
According to programs of the house throughout the day, required environment is different from each other. We need to wake up feeling fresh with morning light beaming into the room and we can drink a cup of tea with cozy atmosphere in the afternoon. In addition, quiet and peaceful atmosphere is required for evening when family members can enjoy playing games together. Thus, house cannot be built per simple functional demand, such as, facing the south and blocking the north. Communication with external environment should be maximized by reflecting the elevation and sectional design that responses to the demands from all direction and from day to night. Physical frame of concrete house will be a stage of changeable possibilities in various forms by a relationship with external environment per daily time period and the residents’ activities.”
